Title: When We Were One, 2011
Medium: acrylic and oil on canvas
Size: 30 x 30 x 6.5 cm / 11.8" x 11.8 x 2.6"
A woman with rabbit ears is in the throes of birth, but there's no baby. The fox beside her is wrapped in the umbilical cord and gazes impassively at the viewer.
The birth symbolizes a pushing out old of old patterns which aren't needed any more. The fox is, despite his apparent ambivalence, part of the process.
'When We Were One' is an introverted piece. It's about the pains and efforts that are caused by emotional growth.
The painting is part of a series called 'The Rabbitlady'. The artworks in this series show the journey of a mystical woman as she falls pregnant, has a baby and meets a man.
A selection of the pieces feature in a handbound book called 'A Rabbit Reborn', which has been shown at book fairs in Scotland and England (Turn the Page, Platform Arts Belfast, Glasgow Contemporary Arts and the Master Show at ECA, Edinburgh).
'When We Were One' was created over the course of several months in 2011. The piece has been signed and dated on the back. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
I work with high quality oil paints to ensure longevity and vibrancy of color. For this painting I used Sennelier and Old Holland Classic paints. The painting has been coated with a final varnish which protects it from external effects, aging and yellowing.
The piece will be sent flat in secure packaging with a track and trace service. In the rare event that your package is delayed, please send me an email and I'll contact the postal services for you. For any further questions, please contact me or look at my terms.
